Acid mine drainage

Acid Mine Drainage
Acid mine drainage is acidic wastewater with a pH < 5.0 which is laden with iron, sulfate and other metals. It forms under natural conditions when geologic strata containing pyrite are exposed to the atmosphere or oxidizing environments. It can form from both surface and underground coal mining operation sites.
Challenge:
This water is very complex as it contains high levels of iron, heavy metals, salinity, fouling agents, and is low pH.
Solution:
The RDI™ Desalination System with proper pre-treatment for iron removal can treat the balance of the complex species, producing water for re-use in mining, oil & gas, or agriculture.
